Sprayfoam Technical Areas - Residential
This homeowners main concern was maximizing the sprayfoam benefits with cost effectiveness in mind. So we recommended using 2lb HEATLOK sprayfoam by Demilec in the following areas:
- Waterlines; all waterlines in the exterior walls were sprayfoamed to R22, ensuring the waterlines are never cold during the winter months
- Garage ceiling; in the winter garage is the coldest area of the house resulting in the floor above becoming too cold to walk on and the heating costs increasing as greater heat is required to keep the house warm. In this garage ceiling R31 sprayfoam was installed to prevent any cold air from the garage leaking into the living area upstairs. All pipe and duct work were spray foamed to R14 to ensure they are also insulated properly.
- Joist pockets; generally, joist pockets are difficult to insulate and seal properly using the conventional batt and vapour barrier technique due to its tight space. To avoid this, all joist pockets of the basement and mainfloor were sprayfoamed to achieve absolute barrier to air leakage!
- Attic HVAC system (main line trunk and pipes); the mainline of the HVAC system inside the attic and its branching ducts were spray foamed to R14, up to code. This ensures that air circulation inside the attic will not effect the temperatures of the HVAC system, keeping the house warm during the winters and cool during the hot summers!
